Anatomy hand drawings accompanied most of my nursing notes on every page because patient care mandates knowledge, focus and a rested head to face the demands of shift work as care is given to patients.

Nurses gained additional training on the wards from sisters during my training, and we had to be mentally prepared for the unexpected and new challenges that arose within minutes or hours on some days.

In the United Kingdom, I was privileged to train along side male and female nurses from many countries around the world, and it was a bit of a disappointment when I relocated to Canada in the early 1970's, and there were no male nurses working on wards with me until the early 2000's.

Thankfully, that is changing, because male nurses can often reach frightened boys, and occasionally adult and elderly male patients, with a calming effect from the heart.
